Please stop trying to be “cool”

I read this article by Ozan Varol with the same title, and I was inspired to write my own version.

After reading this article, I reflected on my own life and realised that I’ve been guilty of this so many times. I try to be “cool”, to appear like I’ve seen it all, and be above all.

On the other hand, I’m married to someone who’s so alive. She’s excited about everything, even the smallest thing. She’s thrilled by a bird and a flower. She is wow-ed by a performance, a song, and even a video. She looks at something and think it’s the coolest thing even, wondering how it was built or invented.

She’s excited about life. She’s alive.

She allows herself to be moved by the world (not by everything of course), but she allows herself to stay open, to drop the shield, to resist the urge of trying to be cool.

Perhaps, it’s time for me to drop the “cool”, drop the defences, drop the act.

It’s time to live, to allow myself to be awed by that small invention, to allow myself to soak in a moment, to be enraptured in time, to be led by the current of life into areas that are more interesting and a whole lot more fun.

It’s time we live life and let life lead us.
